Our Lady of Lourdes chapel, La Madeleine, Paris
A brief visit to Paris this week brought me to the Madeleine district in Paris in search of parking space. After dropping by at Galerie-T in Cadet to see the Tokyo-Ga Imaginary Bookstore set up, I had intended to visit the Gary Winogrand exhibition at the Jeu de Paume at Concorde, but having got there, I found a long queue which I had not planned sufficient time to stay lodged at. Disappointed, on the way back to the underground garage, I popped into the imposing neo-classical La Madeleine church, at the end of Rue Faubourg St Honore.
A brilliant fireworks display lit up the skies last weekend, across the river from our flat. Each year the Brits hold Guy Fawkes Night fireworks and bonfires across the nation on the 5th November. This year, the Hurlingham Club did it early as a joint Halloween / Fireworks party for its members. We just had a free show.
You know that Autumn is here when the leaves begin to brown and fall, and when the sun sets a little earlier day by day. October brings about a special light at dusk, when the sun sinks over the horizon, drawing long shadows and the air remains chilly. Caught this surfer heading out to join his mates on Sandown beach, on the Isle of Wight, with the pier in the background.
